EHS Statement
The Bar Code Scanner is a laser-emitting device. Avoid looking at the beam.
General
The Code Reader operates by using optical scanning heads that translate a printed signal (a bar code) into a series of electronic signals. These signals are compared with the Reference Code, or “Pharmacode”, loaded into the Code Reader.
If an incorrect bar code is encountered, the carton will be rejected.
Settings
The optical scanning head must be focused so that it is able to distinguish the code. This can be done by a Fitter or an Electrician.
After any maintenance, the bar code reader is to be set-up and it’s operation challenged to ensure correct functioning.
1. Entering a new Reference Code for a Different Version Carton
Access to the parameters is via the Operator interface. Enter the new code, reading and entering the bars from right-to-left as the machine would see as per the machine manual.
2. Challenging the Code Reader for Cartons
2.1. Modify a bar code by changing a thin bar to a thick bar, or add a bar, use a Blue or Black pen. Clearly mark “Reject” on the carton
2.2. Place the modified bar code in the infeed magazine within the first three cartons or leaflets.
Start the machine, allow the modified bar code to pass under the sensor and allow the carton to be rejected. The component with the faulty bar code should be rejected.
2.3. If the bar code reader fails the challenge, check the following:
Bar code has been entered correctly, (see section 1).
That the bar code function is still active on the machine.
Note: This should never be turned off.
LED sensor has been set-up correctly. See Process Fitter or Electrician.
2.4. If all of the above do not rectify the problem, notify a Fitter/Electrician and your Area Manager. When the situation is corrected, challenge again.
3. Adding a New Reference Code for a Different Leaflet
Access the parameters is via the Operator Interface. Enter the new code, reading and entering the bars from right-to-left as the machine would see them as per the machine manual
4. Challenging the Code Reader for Leaflets
4.1. Modify a leaflet bar code by changing a thin bar to a thick bar, or add a bar, use a Blue or Black pen clearly mark “Reject” leaflet.
4.2. Place the modified leaflet in the leaflet in feed magazine. Start the machine, allow the modified leaflet to pass through the sensor and allow the leaflet to be rejected.
4.3. If the bar code fails check the following:
Bar code has been entered correctly.
The bar code function is still active on the machine. Note this should never be turned off when using leaflets.
Led sensor has been set-up correctly. See process Fitter or Electrician.
4.4. If all of the above does not rectify the problem, notify a Fitter/ Electrician and your Area Manager. When the problem has been rectified, challenge the bar code again.
